Where Should an ADA Shower Seat be Installed?

According to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), ADA shower seats should be mounted on the wall opposite the shower control unit. The centerline of the shower seat should be 17 to 19 inches above the finished floor and there should be a grab bar installed within 12 inches of the shower seat.

Are there any other tips for ADA shower seat placement?

  • Make sure the shower seat is within reach from the shower transfer area.
  • Ensure the shower seat is level and stable.
  • The shower seat should be at least 20 inches deep and 15 inches wide.
  • There should be clear floor space in front of the shower seat for someone to maneuver a wheelchair or walker.
  • ADA shower seats are required to have a weight capacity of at least up to 250 pounds.

All ADA shower seats on GrabBars.com meet these dimension requirements and have a weight capacity of up to 400 pounds.
